Gianmarco Ercoli held the pain from a broken finger to score the victory in V8GP Round 8 – The Italian fended off Thomas Toffel in a magical 17-lap race, while fellow Italian Vittorio Ghirelli retained his overall lead

The old idiom of “no pain, no gain” holds true in the world of NASCAR Euro Series following the events that transpired in V8GP Round 8 at Autodrom Most. Thomas Toffel and Gianmarco Ercoli made a little contact in the opening lap that, unbeknownst to fans at the time, ended up injuring Ercoli’s thumb. Despite this, the Italian knew that he had the machine underneath him to win. Persevering with both the agony and relentless pressure from Toffel would crack a driver’s mind, but for an elite driver like the Alumitec racer, he managed to get the job done and claim a sensational victory in front of the passionate fans at the Czech Republic.
The pace from the #11 Alumitec Racing Ford Mustang had been strong the whole weekend: Teammate Raphael Lessard swept the wins in OPEN, while Ercoli scored a runner-up finish on Saturday. Jordan O’Brien beat the Italian to the punch on Round 7 and it looked like the American was on course for a repeat on Sunday. Unfortunately, throttle issues forced the driver of the #50 Hendriks Motorsport Ford Mustang to the pits to fix the car. With a clear view from the lead, Ercoli kept his focus razor sharp and defended with his might all the way to the chequered flag.
“The finish is good!” said Ercoli in the Victory Lane, his second time in the magical place in 2026. “I told you before the start that the car is perfect, and it was the case from the start to the end. I did, however, make a little mistake in the first corner. I touched Toffel and I think I broke my finger, but I’m happy with the result. A win before the home race is really good for me.”
Behind Ercoli and Toffel, there was a lot of unpredictability. Thomas Krasonis was forced to retire with problems on the rear of his machine not long after O’Brien made his unscheduled pit stop. Vittorio Ghirelli claimed third from his teammate’s misfortunes, but the Italian suffered from mechanical problems of his own. It was an uncharacteristic race for the ice cool Ghirelli, who was forced to retire with only one lap to go.
Fabrizio Armetta was the next in line to take the podium, though he had his work cut out from the challenges presented by Garrett Lowe. The Italian tried his best to make his Club Competition machine as wide as possible and for many laps, he was able to keep his position with some hard but fair actions. However, with just a few corners to go, Lowe made his pass stick and joined Ercoli and Toffel on the podium.
Toffel, who started on pole position for the first time in V8GP with the #34 THT by Race Art Technology Chevrolet Camaro, tied his career best finish in the top division of NASCAR Euro Series. The Swiss also grabbed his second victory in the Challenger Trophy with this result. In addition, Lowe took a special classification win with his podium: The American “hybrid racer” secured the top prize in the Junior Trophy.
Czech’s favorite Martin Doubek completed the top-5 ahead of Vinnie Meskelis and Paul Jouffreau, who both joined the driver of the #99 BS+BREMOTION Chevrolet Camaro on the Junior Trophy podium. Logan Bearden continued to impress with an eight place finish, enough for second in the Challenger Trophy. Nelson Piquet Jr. and Jack Davidson rounded out the top-10 after a hard fought scrap. Davit Kajaia charged from 22nd on the grid to 14th, giving the Georgian four bonus points and a Challenger Trophy silverware.
Ghirelli’s retirement couldn’t have come at a better time, as Round 8 is now considered as his worst result of 2026. With the race’s result dropped from his points tally, the PK Carsport driver was still able to maintain a 24 point gap from O’Brien at the top of the championship standings. Removing a non-starting appearance from Valencia promoted Doubek all the way to joint third in the standings. Doubek and Lowe, the overall leader of the Junior Trophy, are level on 37 points behind Ghirelli, but Lowe wins on the tie breaker with a better best finish – a second place in Spain compared to two thirds from Doubek. Paul Jouffreau completes the overall top-5, 12 points behind Lowe in the Junior Trophy battle. Logan Bearden continues to lead the Challenger Trophy in 10th overall, 16 points ahead of Kajaia.
With four spectacular races at Autodrom Most, we can now say that the regular season of the 2026 NASCAR Euro Series season has now been completed. From this on, the drivers will be faced with the challenge of the Playoffs. Double points could give them an opportunity to bring home a lot of points, but any mistake and it’ll be their rivals who wins big instead. Who is going to handle the Playoffs pressure the best?
