“It’s just the beginning. It feels like my baby has won,” said Alon Day after Thomas Krasonis secured his first NASCAR Euro Series victory in the OPEN championship at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, on Saturday. The four-time Israeli champion has played a key role in the Greek driver’s career, acting as his mentor and driver coach. The pair have been working together since 2024, and their collaboration reached its first big milestone when Krasonis won his first OPEN and PRO race in Spain with Anthony Kumpen’s PK Carsport team.

“We worked really hard last year,” Day continued. ‘Since we started working together, I’ve been so proud of him. I know how hard he worked in the off-season, and he really deserved that win. Like I said, it’s just the beginning. The PK Carsport guys do an amazing job. It feels like I’m driving the car, but we also know there’s still a lot of work to do.” Day knows what it takes to become Europe’s NASCAR champion. He won the title with PK Carsport and CAAL Racing, setting records that will certainly stand the test of time.

Despite not chasing a fifth title for himself, the Israeli still has the flame inside of him. Now, he is focusing on supporting Krasonis in becoming the first NASCAR champion from Greece. “Thanks to Alon for his help,” said the 23-year-old, who also thanked his sponsors, family, team and supporters after his OPEN win on Saturday. “Hopefully, this is just the beginning. We arrived in Valencia well prepared. Wins don’t come easily. I made a small mistake when braking after the start, but I will learn from it. After this win, I’m lost for words.”

On Sunday, after winning his first PRO race, Krasonis added, ‘We have been in this series for six years, and now we have won two races within 24 hours. This is the first major win for a Greek in a major European motorsports series. We broke many records this weekend and we want to secure the title with many more wins. It feels just like winning; we are number one. That’s the goal.” Krasonis may have experienced his breakthrough in NASCAR racing at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, where he now leads the PRO standings after two races. However, there are six events to go, and the NASCAR Euro Series is one of the most unpredictable championships in the world.

Day and Krasonis is a winning combination with the potential to write its own chapter in EuroNASCAR’s history books. The next stop is Autodromo di Vallelunga in Italy on 17–18 May. Can Krasonis maintain his momentum in both championships and take another step towards winning the PRO and OPEN titles? Can Day help his protege improve his pace and racecraft in a V8 beast without electronic aids? Let’s find out at the track near Rome.
