  • Claudio Cappelli started racing when he was 36 years old
  • The Italian is a star on the EuroNASCAR grid growing his popularity each year
  • His story is a blueprint for gentleman drivers from all around the world

Claudio Cappelli’s name has become synonymous with perseverance, passion, and an undying love for motorsport. From his early days in karting to making his mark in the NASCAR Euro Series, the Italian driver’s journey is a testament to dedication and the pursuit of dreams. With his infamous beard and open-minded approach towards the fans, the 50-year-old is one of the most popular drivers in the EuroNASCAR paddock.

Born and raised in Italy, Cappelli’s connection to racing started at a young age. He took his first steps in motorsport through karting, where he developed fundamental skills that would shape his future career. However, unlike many professional racers who take the traditional single-seater route, Cappelli found his true calling in touring cars, where his aggressive yet calculated driving style made the difference.

As a businessman, Cappelli successfully balanced his career in racing with his professional life, proving that passion and perseverance can go hand in hand. But beyond the racetrack and the boardroom, he is a man deeply connected to his roots, his family, and his love for music – especially rock, which fuels his energy before every race.

An Unique Journey into EuroNASCAR

Cappelli’s entry into the NASCAR Euro Series was far from conventional. Unlike many of his competitors, he didn’t follow the typical junior formula ladder at a young age. After he completed his karting career, he took some time off to build his fortunes in business before he resumed his racing journey through endurance and GT racing starting at 36 years old. His transition to EuroNASCAR was driven by his love for pure racing – where driver skill and raw talent take precedence over aerodynamics and electronic aids.

“I love the fact that in EuroNASCAR, it’s all about the driver,” Cappelli shared. “No ABS, no traction control, just you and the car. That’s how real racing should be.”

Since joining the series, Cappelli has consistently impressed with his performances, showcasing not just speed but also racecraft and intelligence. His ability to adapt quickly to different race tracks and conditions has earned him the respect from fellow competitors and fans alike. 2024 was his breakthrough year with three race wins and overall victory in the Legend Trophy dedicated to gentleman drivers in the OPEN championship.

Racing Highlights and Challenges

Cappelli’s time in the NASCAR Euro Series has been marked by significant milestones. From top-10 finishes to battling at the front of the pack, he has steadily climbed the ranks. However, his journey has not been without challenges. Mechanical issues, tough racing incidents, and fierce competition have tested his resolve, but each setback has only strengthened his determination.

“Racing is about overcoming obstacles,” Cappelli said. “Every time you get knocked down, you learn, you adapt, and you come back stronger.”

A Passionate Personality Beyond Racing

While Cappelli is a fierce competitor on track, he is also known for his charismatic personality off it. His love for rock music is well-known in the paddock – whether it’s classic bands like AC/DC, Metallica, Motorhead, Iron Maiden and Ozzy Osbourne or modern rock anthems, his playlist is an essential part of his pre-race ritual.

“Rock music pumps me up before every race. It’s the perfect way to get in the zone,” he revealed.

Outside of racing, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, embracing a balanced lifestyle that keeps him grounded despite the high-speed nature of his career. His passion extends beyond driving, as he often engages with fans, sharing his experiences and encouraging young racers to follow their dreams.

Looking Ahead

With every season, Cappelli continues to push the limits, eyeing even greater achievements in EuroNASCAR. His journey is far from over, and as he looks ahead, his goals remain clear: more podiums, more victories, and ultimately, a shot at the championship title.

“I’m here to race, to fight, and to enjoy every second behind the wheel,” Cappelli affirmed. “EuroNASCAR is my home, and I want to leave my mark on this series.”

As he gears up for the upcoming season, one thing is certain – Claudio Cappelli’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and a love for racing that refuses to fade. Whether on the track, in the paddock, or blasting rock music before a race, he embodies the spirit of a true racer while he’s closely connected to all of the NASCAR fans.

Looking back

After karting, Cappelli started drifting in 2008 and obtained his official racing licence in 2011. He started competing in the Fun Cup and added endurance races to his schedule. Before taking the seat of a real race car, the Italian used a gamepad to race in front of the TV, playing Playstation and PC racing games. From 2013 to 2018 he raced in the Fun Cup, but also gained experience in a GT3 car at the Dubai 24 Hours and plenty of other vehicles. In 2019, he took part in his first EuroNASCAR race weekend at Franciacorta, a track just 20 minutes from his home. He brought home his maiden top-10 result in OPEN.

It took him until 2022 to make his full-time NASCAR debut, having gained more experience at the wheel of cars with slick tyres. He also drove Legends cars, which are the basis of the NASCAR career ladder in the USA, so Cappelli has plenty of experience to take the next step in EuroNASCAR. With three race wins at Oschersleben and Zolder and his triumph in the Legend Trophy in 2024, the bearded Italian wants to keep the momentum going and create more magical moments in the NASCAR Euro Series with Academy / Caffi Motorsports in the 2025 season.
