Academy Motorsport/Alex Caffi Motorsport added another driver to its lineup for the 2022 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season. Andrea Tronconi will make his NASCAR debut at the wheel of the #1 Ford Mustang in EuroNASCAR 2.
With experience in motorbike racing – motocross, enduro, raid and supermotard – the Italian switched to car racing in 2018 driving touring cars. Tronconi, who will compete both for the Legend Trophy and the Rookie Trophy, took his first steps on the EuroNASCAR car in a test session in preparation for the NWES season.
“I’ve always been attracted to motorsports and I’m really happy to make my NASCAR debut. I have no experience with rear wheel drive cars and it will not be easy to find the right feeling from the first race, but I hope to progress during the season,” said the Milan native. “In the first test session I tried to get acquainted with some of the characteristics of this car. I was at ease with the whole team from the beginning, from the Academy Motorsport crew to the technical personnel of Petri Corse. I hope to do well in EuroNASCAR 2 and to have a say for the win in the Legend Trophy”.
Tronconi will share the #1 Mustang with series veteran Thomas Krasonis.
Team Owner Federico Monti said: “Having the opportunity to bring someone like Andrea, a very nice person and a valid driver, to his EuroNASCAR debut is fantastic for the whole team. I’m sure he will be fundamental in creating a great atmosphere in the pit box and he already got solid results in his first on track experience with us. From here we will work together to be in top shape for the season.”
The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season will begin at the iconic Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain on May 14-15, visiting 6 different European countries and crowning the European NASCAR Champion on October 29-30 in Grobnik, on the Croatian Riviera. All races will be streamed live on the EuroNASCAR social media profiles – Youtube, Facebook and Twitch – as well as on Motorsport.tv.
